Elizabeth Ellen Lock 1863

The Ryhall Parish Registers show a baptism for Elizabeth Ellen Lock as follows:

This record always lead me to believe Elizabeth Ellen Lock must be the daughter of William Burton Lock, I must admit I based this assumption, wrongly as it turns out, on the fact of a best fit basis. William Burton Lock was the only William I could find in the Lock’s of Ryhall that would fit, and I struggled to find any marriage for William Burton Lock to a Sarah…….

Buying Elizabeth Ellen Lock’s birth certificate gave the following information:

This gave us the fact that her parents were William Lock and Sarah Andrews (Note no Burton in name!)
Then on finding the marriage certificate for William Lock and Sarah Andrews as follows gave the details that Williams father was James Lock, not what I was looking for William Burton Lock’s father was John Lock.

The next port of call was to look for William and Sarah in the Census records, which we found them first in the 1871 census
This showed:

William Lock was born around 1832 in Exeter, Devon and in fact Sarah Andrews WAS born about 1829 in Ryhall, Rutland and conicendently they brought Elizabeth Ellen Lock back to Ryhall to be baptised in Sarah Andrews home church.

This proves that William Lock and William Burton Lock are not one and the same as I had thought and that it pays to do the research!!

For the record Elizabeth Ellen Lock died in 1864 at Holborn, London
This proves that Elizabeth Ellen Lock is NOT part of the Lock family from Ryhall, as I had originally assumed.
