ON the twenty ninth day of September 1875, the Will with five Codicils thereto of Susan Pollard late of Spalding in the County of Lincoln Widow deceased, who died on the twelfth day of December 1874, at Spalding aforesaid was proved in the District Registry attached to Her Majesty’s Court of Probate at Lincoln by the Oaths of Alfred Hobson of Spalding aforesaid Draper the Executor named in the said Will and John Hope Maclean (in the appointment written Macklean) of 680 Commercial Road East in the County of Middlesex Bank Manager the Executor therein named in the third Codicil they having been first sworn duly to administer.

This is the last Will and Testament of me Susan Pollard of Spalding in the County of Lincoln Widow I appoint my friends Thomas Pear of Spalding aforesaid Civil Engineer and Alfred Hobson of the same place Draper Executors of this my Will and also Trustees thereof for the several purposes hereinafter mentioned and I direct them to pay all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses so soon as conveniently may be after my decease I give and bequeath to my Son in law John Hope Macklean of Romford in the County of Essex Bank Manager all the paintings pictures engravings and prints of which I may die possessed to be delivered to him immediately after my decease I give and bequeath to my three nieces children of my Brother John Lock all my clothes linen and plate to be divided between them as equally as may be by my said Executors I give and bequeath to my said Trustees and the survivor of them all my household furniture china books and other effects (not hereinbefore disposed of) which now are or may at the time of my decease be in and about my dwellinghouse Upon trust in their or his discretion either to divide the same equally amongst all the children of my said Brother John Lock except his eldest son William Lock who shall be living at my decease or to sell and dispose of the same immediately thereafter and hold and dispose of the money arising therefrom in the manner hereinafter directed I give and bequeath to my Servant Elizabeth Akers the sum of ten pounds in case she shall be in my service at the time of my decease And I give and bequeath to my Trustees and the survivor of them all and every my monies and securities for money goods chattels rights credits personal estate and effects not hereinbefore disposed of Upon trust as to such parts thereof as shall not consist of money to convert the same into money as soon as conveniently may be after my decease and to stand possessed thereof and of the moneys to arise from the sale of my furniture and other effects in and about my dwellinghouse if my Trustees or the survivor of them shall convert the same into money and all other moneys to come to their or his hands or hand by virtue of this my will Upon trust to distribute divide and pay the same equally between and amongst all the children of my said Brother except his said eldest son William Lock who shall be living at my death and shall attain the age of twenty one years or marry and such of the issue living at my death of any of his children as shall be dead at my decease leaving issue then living as shall attain the age of twenty one years or marry such children and issue to take in equal shares per stirpes so that the issue of any child of my said Brother as shall have died in my lifetime shall take only the share which the parent of such issue would have taken if living at my decease and attaining the age of twenty one years or marrying And I direct my Trustees or the survivor of them to accumulate the income to arise from the shares of any of the said legatees during minority and to add the same to the capital and to invest both income and capital until the same becomes payable in their or his names or name in the Public Stocks or Funds or on Government or Real securities in England and I empower them or him to alter such investments at their or his discretion for others of a similar kind I devise and bequeath all the real and personal estates which now are or at the time of my decease may be vested in me as mortgagee or trustee unto and to the use of the said Thomas Pear and Alfred Hobson their heirs executors administrators and assigns according to the nature and quality thereof subject to the equities affecting the same and I direct that all such monies as shall be so due to me shall be considered as forming part of my personal estate and disposed of as such And I declare that the receipts of my Trustees or the survivor of them given to mortgagors or others for monies paid by them or him shall be sufficient discharges for the same and shall exonerate such mortgagors or others from all liability to see to the application thereof And in case my said Trustees or either of them shall die in my lifetime or shall on my decease renounce the trusts of this my Will or in case any Trustee or Trustees for the time being of this my Will shall die or become unwilling or unable to act then I empower the surviving or continuing Trustee or in default of any such then the retiring Trustee or the executors or administrators or any or either of the executors or administrators of the last deceased Trustee as the case may be by any writing under his her or their hands to nominate and appoint a new Trustee or new Trustees for the purpose of filling such vacancy or vacancies and such new Trustee or new Trustees shall have the same powers in all respects as the Trustees hereby appointed And on every such appointment the necessary assurances shall be executed for vesting my Trust Estates in the new and old Trustees or in the new Trustees solely as the case may be And I declare that the Trustees or Trustee for the time being of this my Will shall not be answerable for each others acts or receipts nor for any losses happening without his own respective default and shall be at liberty to retain and allow to each other all expenses incidental to the Trusteeship And I declare that the previous clauses and provisions so far as they concern my Trustees hereinbefore named shall extend and apply to the Trustees or Trustee for the time being of this my Will In witness whereof I the said This is a second Codicil to the last Will and Testament (dated the fourth day of March one thousand eight hundred and sixty nine) of me Susan Pollard of Spalding in the County of Lincoln Widow Whereas since the date and execution of my said Will and first Codicil Walter Lock the only child and issue of Alexander Lock deceased who was one of the children of my late Brother John Lock has died leaving a son who ^as^ the only surviving issue of the said Alexander Lock is entitled to his share of the Trust moneys in my said Will directed to be divided and disposed of Now I do hereby declare that in case the said son of the said Walter Lock ^shall^ die under the age of twenty one years without having been married the share in the said trust moneys to which he is entitled as aforesaid shall go and I hereby bequeath the same to his Mother for her own use if she shall be then living In all other respects I confirm my said Will and Codicil as to my said Will so far only as the same is not altered or varied by such first Codicil In witness whereof I have to this second Codicil to my said Will set my hand this fifteenth day of January one thousand eight hundred and seventy Signed by the said Testatrix Susan Pollard as a second Codicil to her last Will and Testament in the presence of us present at the same time who at her request in her presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses Susan Pollard, Cha: Harvey, A. This is a third Codicil to the last Will and Testament (dated the fourth day of March one thousand eight hundred and sixty nine) of me Susan Pollard of Spalding in the County of Lincoln Widow Whereas Thomas Pear one of the Executors and Trustees named in my Will (and to whom as such I have devised and bequeathed certain real and personal estate and given certain powers in my said Will contained in conjunction with his Cotrustee therein named) is so enfeebled in health as to be unable to execute the trusts of my said Will I hereby therefore revoke the appointment of him as one of my Executors and Trustees and the bequest to him of nineteen guineas as such Executor and Trustee and in his place and stead I do hereby substitute and appoint my son in law John Hope Macklean to be an Executor and Trustee of my said Will and the first and second Codicils thereto and I give to him the legacy of nineteen guineas as a remuneration for his trouble as such Executor and Trustee And I declare that my said Will and Codicils shall take effect in the same manner as if the name of the said John Hope Macklean had been originally inserted therein instead of the name of the said Thomas Pear And I give to my said son in law John Hope Macklean the legacy of four hundred pounds in addition to the legacy of two hundred pounds which I have given to him by the first Codicil to my said Will I also give and bequeath to the said Elizabeth Bradshaw Widow the legacy of fifty pounds in addition to the legacy of fifty pounds which I have also given to her by my said first Codicil to my said Will and I direct the said additional legacy’s to my said son in law and the said Elizabeth Bradshaw shall be vested interests in them respectively on the day of my decease and paid to them respectively as well as all other the legacies given by my said Will and Codicil by my Executors within six calendar months after my decease And I also give and bequeath to the said Elizabeth Bradshaw a suit of mourning to be provided and paid for by my said Executors In all other respects I confirm my said Will and first and second Codicils thereto In witness whereof I have to this third Codicil to my said Will set my hand this twenty sixth day of January one thousand eight hundred and seventy two Signed by the said Testatrix Susan Pollard as a third Codicil to her last Will and Testament in the presence of us present at the same time who at her request in her presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses S. This is a fourth Codicil to the last Will and Testament dated the fourth day of March one thousand eight hundred and sixty nine of me Susan Pollard of Spalding in the County of Lincoln Widow Whereby I give and bequeath my Gold Watch with the chain seals and appendages thereto unto my niece Susan Lock the daughter of my Brother John Lock And I direct that the several pecuniary legacies given by any Codicil to my aforesaid Will shall be paid out of and form a deduction from the proceeds of the sale and conversion of my moneys securities for money goods chattels rights credits and residuary personal estate and effects by my said Will directed to be converted and shall be paid thereout to the respective legatees prior to the appropriation of such proceeds to the children of my said Brother John Lock except his eldest son William Lock In all other respects I confirm my said Will and Codicils In witness whereof I have to this fourth Codicil to my said Will set my hand this thirteenth day of November one thousand eight hundred and seventy three Signed by the said Testatrix Susan Pollard as a fourth Codicil to her last Will and Testament in the presence of us present at the same time who at her request in her presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses Susan Pollard, A. This is a fifth Codicil to the last Will and Testament dated the fourth day of March one thousand eight hundred and sixty nine of me Susan Pollard of Spalding in the County of Lincoln Widow Whereas by the third Codicil dated the twenty sixth day of January one thousand eight hundred and seventy two to my said Will I have bequeathed to Elizabeth Bradshaw a suit of mourning to be provided and paid for by my said Executors Now I do hereby revoke the said bequest and in lieu and stead thereof I give and bequeath to the said Elizabeth Bradshaw the legacy or sum of ten pounds in addition to the legacies or sums given to her by my said Will and the Codicils thereto I give and bequeath the sum of ten pounds to the persons who at the time of my decease may be the acting Town Husbands of Spalding to be by them divided equally amongst the male and female inhabitants of the New Alms Houses in Church Street in Spalding aforesaid sometimes called the Square and it is my wish and desire that the same may be so divided and paid within one calendar month after my decease I also give and bequeath to the Blue Coat Charity School in Spalding aforesaid the sum of nineteen pounds and nineteen shillings and to the Infirmary and Dispensary at Spalding aforesaid the sum of ten pounds And I direct that the said last two mentioned legacies respectively shall be paid to the Treasurers for the time being of the said several institutions to be applied to the general purposes thereof respectively And I direct that the last three mentioned legacies shall be fully paid out of such part of my personal estate as may legally be devoted to charitable purposes and shall be paid out of that fund in preference to all other pecuniary legacies by my said Will and the Codicils thereto given In all other respects I confirm my said Will and Codicils so far as the former or any of the earlier Codicils are not revoked by the later Codicils In witness whereof I the said Susan Pollard have hereunto set my hand this fifth day of March one thousand eight hundred and seventy four Signed by the said Testatrix Susan Pollard as a fifth Codicil to her last Will and Testament in the presence of us present at the same time who at her request in her presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses Susan Pollard, A.
