In the name of god amen 1567 and the first day of November in the ixth yere of the reigne of or soveraigne ladie quene Elizabeth &c I Roger Locke of Gretford wthin the countie of Lincoln husbandma[n] beinge sicke and deseased in bodie yett nev[er] the lasse sound and p[er]fyt in memorie and praysed be geven to god do make this my last will and testament in man[er] and forme followinge that is to say ffirst I geve unto Henry Locke my sonne my dwellinge howse wth all and singuler thapp[ur]ten[a]nc[es] ther unto belonginge Itm I will and my mynd is that Jane my wiff shall have the occupienge of the same untill such tyme as my said sonne shall come to his lawfull age in consideracon that she shall honestlie bringe up the rest of my children All the rest of my goods my debts beinge paid I geve and bequethe to Jane my wiff Edmonde my sonne and Mary my dawghter And one of my said children to be thothers heire and I will and my mynd is that my said two children shall have some what more then the halfe of my goods wth thother halfe as is abovesaid I will my said wiff shall have condiconallie as before, and my said wiff to gether wth my sonne Edmonde and Mary my dawghter I make executors of this my last will and testament and I will that John Wynter shalbe the Sup[er]visor of this my will and testament theis beinge witnesses John Wynter Richard Henton Henry Warde /

Probatum fuit apud Sleford xxijo die mensis Octobris anno d[omi]ni 1568 coram Rob[er]to Luge artiu[m] m[agist]ro officiali d[omi]ni Archi[diaconi] Lincoln p[er] comissione[m] &c onere executionis dicti testamenti exequut[oribus] sup[r]a no[m]i[n]at[is] in forma iuris iurat[is] &c /

  • Roger Locke (Testator): Husbandman of Gretford (Greatford), Lincolnshire. Wrote his will on November 1, 1567, while “sicke and deseased in bodie yett never the lasse sound and perfyt in memorie.”
  • Jane Locke (Wife): Wife of Roger. Appointed co-executor. She was granted the use of the dwelling house until their son Henry reached lawful age, provided she honestly brought up the rest of the children. She also received a portion of the remaining goods.
  • Henry Locke (Son): Son of Roger. Bequeathed the dwelling house and its appurtenances, to take possession upon reaching “lawfull age.”
  • Edmonde Locke (Son): Son of Roger. Appointed co-executor and bequeathed a share of the remaining goods.
  • Mary Locke (Daughter): Daughter of Roger. Appointed co-executor and bequeathed a share of the remaining goods.
  • John Wynter (Supervisor & Witness): Appointed supervisor of the will and served as a witness.
  • Richard Henton (Witness): Witness to the will.
  • Henry Warde (Witness): Witness to the will.
  • Robert Luge (Official): Master of Arts, Official of the Archdeacon of Lincoln, who granted probate on October 22, 1568, at Sleford (Sleaford).
